No, homebirths are typically intended for low-risk pregnancies. However, Natatia frequently participates in births considered high-risk, such as breech births, twins, and VBACs. These situations are managed within specific guidelines, ensuring safety measures and plans are established, providing ample honest informed consent, and involving a team of experienced and knowledgeable providers for support. Homebirth midwives do not plan deliveries at home for women with uncontrolled hypertension, uncontrolled diabetes, or unmanaged mental health disorders, as these cases often require additional medical support and safety precautions.
Natatia will assist you with that. She will prepare all the required documents and can sign everything before it is submitted to the state for filing. The process is straightforward and doesn't require you to have any prior knowledge.
UNITY Complete is the only test of its kind. It can determine if there may be changes to the baby’s genes (recessive conditions) and chromosomes (aneuploidies). These insights are possible with just one blood draw from mom.
Most expecting families can learn early there is a low chance their baby will be born with certain medical conditions. This information can provide peace of mind. For pregnancies at higher risk, having this information early helps you and your doctor make informed decisions.

UNITY AneuploidyTM Screen

No, epidurals are not typically available for home births. An epidural is administered by an anesthesiologist and requires specialized medical equipment, which is usually found in a hospital setting. If pain relief is desired during a home birth, alternative options such as nitrous oxide, intravenous medications, or non-pharmacological methods (like water immersion or breathing techniques) may be considered. It's important to discuss pain management options with your midwife ahead of time.
All visits, with the exception of your first postpartum appointment following a home birth, will be held at Natatia’s office in Canton, OH. You are always welcome to bring others with you to the appointment, provided they are healthy.
We adhere to a standard holistic prenatal visit schedule for low-risk pregnancies, with in-person care typically beginning around 8-12 weeks. The usual visit schedule is as follows: 8-12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 38, 40, 41, and 42 weeks. Each appointment includes 60 minutes of dedicated one-on-one time, allowing us to achieve a lot together. This schedule is particularly effective since many families travel long distances for each visit. Of course, we can meet more frequently if there are additional concerns that need to be addressed.
After a home birth, Natatia plans to visit you for your postpartum home appointment within the 24 hrs (depending on what time the baby is born) 3-5 days after delivery then a 1 week appointment,. After that, we typically schedule follow-up visits in the office during weeks 3, and 6. Some families may prefer to stay home longer, and in those cases, we can arrange office visits at weeks 2 or 3 and then again at week 6. The choice is yours. Some families may require more support and may wish to come in more often.
There will be ample one-on-one time during these visits to gather essential clinical information, share wisdom and guidance for maintaining a low-risk status, and genuinely get to know each other. You'll also have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and discuss your life, your hopes for the birth, and more.
Once you start your care, you'll have online access to an electronic health record system that includes HIPAA-compliant messaging. Until then, you can reach out to Natatia via text message, email, or a quick phone call for non-emergency inquiries. In case of a true emergency, please seek immediate emergency care and inform Natatia. If you are in labor, please call 330-849-0195 instead of texting.

Whether insurance will cover a home birth depends on several factors, including your specific insurance plan, the policies of the insurance provider, and the regulations in your state. To get the most accurate information, it’s best to directly contact your insurance provider and discuss your specific situation regarding home birth coverage.

This information is used to help maintain your low-risk status and ensure optimal health for both you and your baby, providing the best experience possible. You will also have access to specialized genetic screenings, allergy tests, gut tests, and more. In most cases, your insurance will be billed, and if you are a self-pay client, the lab offers a discounted rate. You can also contact them afterward to inquire about further reducing your bill.
ULTRASOUNDS: Currently, you can obtain a dating ultrasound at no cost through one of our trusted partners. Natatia will offer you the most cost-effective options for obtaining diagnostic ultrasounds at an external facility. Please note that there will be additional costs associated with this, which will need to be paid directly to the facility. It’s important to confirm the costs with her directly.
Yes, Natatia offers several options. One option is The Fresh Test®. Around 28 weeks of pregnancy, you'll be asked to complete a simple non-fasting test. Please plan to arrive about 30 minutes early so you can mix and drink it in the waiting room before your regular prenatal appointment. Clear instructions will be provided.
Another option is to monitor your food intake and record your blood sugar levels for two weeks. This method involves multiple daily finger pricks and requires a glucometer, test strips, and lancets.
You may also choose to drink the Glucola® beverage and have your blood drawn at the office or a Labcorp location, which will then be sent to the lab for analysis.
All of these options will be discussed in greater detail during your prenatal visit, and an informed consent document will be provided.
Yes! In fact, we encourage it. It’s very important to stay hydrated and nourished in labor so you can maintain your strength.
The Ohio Newborn Screening program offers an optional screening that can be performed in the comfort of your home. This test requires only five drops of your baby’s blood and is designed to identify infants at risk for various serious medical conditions. Early detection of these conditions can prevent complications such as slow growth, developmental disabilities, and even mortality. Timely treatment can significantly mitigate these risks.
During your prenatal visit, informed consent will be provided, allowing you the opportunity to decide whether you would like to participate in this screening.
Additionally, Natatia will refer you for a hearing exam, which will be conducted outside of the home.
For more information about these tests, please visit: [Ohio Department of Health - Newborn Screening](https://odh.ohio.gov/know-our-programs/Newborn-Screening/welcome).
